- Inspired by Blackpool's infamous Golden Mile;
a stretch of almost one mile from Central Pier to the Tower,
with the beach and sea on one side and numerous amusement
arcades and rock sellers on the other.
- This temporary piece of (truly) public art was made
by over 5,000 local people (mainly children) who created their
own golden inches, that were assembled into giant tape
measures, before being attached and lit on the Grade II listed
building, by Blackpool's Illuminations Department.
- Approximately one mile of inches surrounded The
Grundy Art Gallery and Central Library - a panorama
of almost 80 metres - from 31st July to 31st October 1998.
- Funded by LCC, Blackpool CC and many others!
