The Seat of Learning

Inspired by Avalokitsvara (The Buddha of Compassion), this was the prototype for a much larger (8ft long) Bench Throne at the Manchester Buddhist Centre.

  • Designed to fit into the window recess outside the main Shrine room, the seating was to be used whilst waiting to enter the room - another world of enlightenment and awakening.
  • The seat is low to accommodate both children and adults, and has a shelf for shoe storage - whilst their owners are in the shrine room.
  • 7ft x 2ft. Lacquered gold wood, brass trim, hand printed embroidered fabrics.
  • 1995
